About HAA



Background

Harford Artists was organized in 1967 and incorporated in 1970. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the fine arts in Harford County. Our focus is on service to the art community in the belief that this best serves the community at large.

The Harford Artists' Association, Inc. (HAA) is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Harford County government through the Harford County Cultural Arts Board. It is also supported by the Town of Bel Air as a basis for the town's designation as an "Arts and Entertainment District".

Even though HAA is supported by the state, county, and the Town of Bel Air, we are foremost an artist-run group. The artists pay dues to HAA, staff and run the gallery at the Armory Marketplace - Suite 104 in the Town of Bel Air. HAA provides educational and art display opportunities throughout the county.

Meetings, Shows, Exhibits, and Workshops

Our members meet annually in April, May, or June with at least a three-week notice of the meeting date to our members through our newsletter. Meetings usually start at 2 p.m. and feature lectures, critiques and demonstrations open to the public. Shows, exhibitions and workshops are presented throughout the year at various venues. We also have agreements with several local businesses to show and sell our members' artwork at their places of business. Check out "Rotating Exhibits" on our Exhibits page.

Artists Directory

Our Artists Directory page helps our artists to get noticed. To add your artwork and information to the Directory, send to the HAA webmaster one jpg or png file at least 400 to 500 pixels wide. Also list your Media, Subject Matter, Website, and Facebook address in your email. If you do commission work, list the types of commissions you do. If you sell prints, note cards, and giclees, etc., also mention that. You may add a short paragraph or two about yourself and your artwork. (See examples from artists already listed there.) If you prefer, you may send your information by postal mail to the webmaster. If you want to discuss with the webmaster what to send, please call me.

Harford Artists Gallery

Our association rents suite 104 of the Armory Marketplace at 37 North Main Street from the Town of Bel Air. This group of buildings were the original garages for the Reckord Armory which faces Main Street. Suite 104 houses our Gallery and administrative offices and member art shows are held on a bimonthly basis. See the Gallery and Calendar pages for details.



The Sketch Pad - Newsletter

"The Sketch Pad" Newsletter is available on our website and is published on the third Monday of each month. The newsletter includes the names of new members, news about our members, local Call for Artists, our gallery news, and art happenings that may affect us. Any member who does not have an email address will receive a black and white copy by postal mail. There are many ways to exhibit your artwork so read about them in our newsletter and website and take advantage of these opportunities.

Membership

You don't have to be an artist to join The Harford Artists' Association, Inc. Click on "Membership Application" below to print and fill out an application to join HAA. All members will receive a "Member HandBook" which will have all of the information needed for members to effectively use the services of our association. Members will receive a Membership Roster as well.

Membership in The Harford Artists' Association, Inc. is open to anyone who is a visual or three-dimensional artist, as well as others interested in learning about the arts or promoting the arts in Harford County. Membership Categories are shown in the red/yellow box.

New Members

New members will receive a welcome notice from HAA and will be notified when to pick up their copies of the Member Handbook and Roster from our Gallery.

HAA By-Laws

In October, 2014, the Board of Directors updated our ByLaws as set forth in President Pam Burton's attached letter.

In November, 2015 the Board of Directors updated our By-Laws to an annual general membership meeting. HAA will hold the annual meeting in April, May or June. Members will be notified no less than three weeks in advance. The meeting and subsequent program are free and open to the public.

HAA Scholarship

We provide a $500 Scholarship to deserving Arts & Design student(s) at Harford Community College. All applicants must be currently enrolled in their Arts & Design program and meet specified criteria. HCC has established a committee that will announce the scholarship on the college's website, publicize the availability of the scholarship to all HCC students and handle the selection process. The scholarship will not be needs based. The selected student will receive $250.00 during the fall semester and another $250.00 during the spring semester and will be required to attend an HAA meeting and give a presentation about his/her art work.

As a result, HAA is being recognized for this scholarship with this Leaf on the Donor Recognition Tree located in the Chesapeake Lobby on the HCC Campus.

Our Advertising Program

Check out our ads in "Harford's Heart" magazine as well as the Harford County's "Visitors' Guide & Calendar of Events" . We also deliver our attractive show cards to various businesses in the local area for distribution to their customers. If you want to help deliver advertising cards to local businesses contact Pattie Stonesifer. Tell your friends and family about our ads. Let's get our message out to as many people and businesses as possible.

HAA DVD Collection

Our DVD collection is held at our Gallery. We rent the DVDs to members via the honor system. Members will find instructions at the gallery for leaving a rental fee and signing out these materials. View the PDF listing of the videos here. If you are not already a member, become a member by filling out the membership application so that you can take advantage of this benefit.

HAA Bio Book

Many of our members are now in the bio book at the HAA Gallery. If you are new and would like to be included in the book, you may contact the Gallery Coordinator with your information.

HAA Logo Clothing

Several styles of HAA logo clothing are available for sale at the HAA Gallery. Styles include shirts, T-shirts, jackets, and aprons. Contact HAA Publicity to purchase.
