LOOKING BACK AND FEELING PROUD - From Jan 2017 HAA Newsletter

As we begin 2017 and celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Harford Artists' Association, Inc. you, the members, can be very proud. Thank you Barbara Kirchner, Joan Preston, Daphne (West) Vanderburgh, David and Sara Hodge for having the foresight to establish HAA in 1967. These folks are on the roster 50 years later. Through the years many members have volunteered their time to maintain and grow the Association. Thank you one and all. We have used the legacy left to us to build a reputation for being a welcoming, strong, community-involved organization that spent the last six months of 2016 establishing a beautiful art gallery in Bel Air.

Tom Spicer stepped up to present a money-saving, practical plan to make panels that would be used to "build" the Gallery. Glenn Kahl and Larry Smouse worked many hours with Tom in his garage to build every one of the panels. The Executive Board approved the plan and had faith in membership that it could be implemented with volunteers. Many thanks to Tom, Glenn, Larry and the members, spouses and relatives that helped in many different ways.

Cub Scouts, Town organizations, Art-related Boards and the community have taken advantage of HAA hospitality since the Gallery opened on November 2, 2016. We members who labored, donated funds, shared ideas, paid membership dues, and manned the Gallery can be so very proud.

More exciting things are happening with HAA in 2017. Renew your membership, volunteer your time, join a committee, welcome new members, share your ideas, use the multipurpose room to work on your art. Welcome tourists and new community members to the Town of Bel Air by directing them to the "Visitor's Center" at the gallery. Think about the last six months of 2016. Give us a challenge and you can count on HAA members to step up and meet it!!
