Melinda Fabian received Honorable Mention in the Sculpture category for her three- dimensional paper sculpture “Quackers” in the 2016 Miniature Painters, Sculptures & Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. 83rd Annual International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature. The show will be held thru Dec 31, 2016 at the Mansion at Strathmore, 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD 20852.
Two of Melinda Fabian’s paper sculptures titled, “On the Rocks” and “On My Soapbox” have been accepted and will be on exhibit at the Miniature Art Society of Florida 2017 Annual International Miniature Art Show. The show will be held at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, FL. The show runs from Jan 15, 2017 thru Feb 5, 2017.

Joanna Barnum competed in the Harford Plein Air paint-out event as a juried artist, and received Second Place in the exhibit for her painting “Bel Air Boogie Woogie.” She had two plein air paintings juried into the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters’ Assn’s Cityscape 2016 show at the Peale Museum in Baltimore, and received Second Place for “From One Fishbowl To Another.” She will also have watercolor illustrations published in the upcoming Winter issue of Faerie Magazine.
Ursula Cain-Jordan of ElizaJane Fine Art was one of seven artists participating in the art exhibit at Evergreen Health Care on Nov 17. This exhibit was part of the New Day Campaign.

Alexandra Kopp and Gabriele Roth are each exhibiting three paintings in the 83rd Annual International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature, presented by The Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. which runs thru Dec 31, 2016. Gabriele Roth won 3rd place in the Bird and Animal Division. Jonathan West has agreed to coordinate the McFaul Activities Center Rotating Exhibit. He also now has paintings for sale at the Velvet Trunk on Office St in Bel Air, Md. Jonathan West’s painting, “Aloha” was selected for Art Maryland 2016, a biennial multimedia juried exhibit of the Howard County Arts Council in Ellicott City, Md. The exhibit runs thru Dec 9; a reception and juror remarks were held on Nov 4.
Pamela Wilde received an Honorable Mention from the Harford Co. Cultural Arts Board for her painting, “It’s Always Sunny at Bail Bonds.” She entered a “quick draw” competition where artists had two hours to make a painting.
Pamela Wilde . . . was awarded First Place for “Pizza by the Slice” in the 2016 Bethany Beach Ocean Suites Plein Air event in early October.
Judy Lenehan submitted a few of her fibre collages to the BWI Art competition, and one of them was chosen! The competition was open to MD artists. A total of 28 pieces of art were chosen to be blown up in size to 8 ft x 8 ft on fabric panels. There will be four different shows of seven works each, over two years, beginning in November. Each exhibit, located in the internation- al terminal of the airport and unfortunately beyond the security check- point, will be shown for six months. She doesn’t know yet when her piece will be displayed. There will be an artist reception for each show.
Melinda Fabian’s art is in three different exhibitions. Melinda had a solo exhibition at the Havre de Grace Library called “Paper Critters - Paper Sculpture by Melinda Fabian”, with twenty-six paper sculptures on display. Three of Melinda’s miniature paper sculptures are currently on exhibit in the Mountainside Miniatures Show in Lakewood, CO. Melinda received Honorable Mention for her paper sculpture titled, “Temptation” at The 33rd Annual National Miniature Art Exhibit at the Art Gallery of Fells Point, 1926 Fleet Street, Baltimore. Two other 3D paper sculptures are in the show. The exhibit is on display through Oct 30.

Jean Priebe taught a basic knitting class on Oct 8 at the Arts by the Bay Gallery in Havre de Grace, Md.
Jaime M. Schultz, who is the 2015 recipient of our HAA Scholarship, recently issued information about herself and her goals as an art student at Harford Community Col- lege. Jaime also told me that she is the Assistant Art Historian at HCC.

Fred S. Brundick mentions that at the Maryland State Fair, his photos won a third and a fourth prize. Two of his photos were included in the September Special B&W Edition of Living the Photo Artistic Life magazine.

Jody Karantonis recently sold 23 prints and thirteen 5x7 cards at the triennial Old Home Week celebration in her childhood home town of Greencastle PA. The prints were of paintings of various places in and around Greencastle, and the proceeds benefitted the Old Home Week organization.

Jonathan West is the certified Grumbacher art instructor at Michaels in Bel Air. He is currently teaching several different acrylic painting and drawing classes. Long-time member, Lorraine Vanik, was taking a painting class with Jonathan on Monday nights.
The Bel Air Downtown Alliance’s recent “Roll Out the Barrel” event was a great success and HAA is proud to have been a part of it. Our artists Pattie Stonesifer, Louanne Van Fossen, Mindi Scott and Alexandra Kopp displayed their artwork on easels and checked in guests making sure they got their cigar and bourbon tasting tickets.
“Five Friends In Art” - HAA members Robin Capecci, Barbara Kirchner, Alexandra Kopp, Barbara Love, and Sandra Norris - Art Show Reception was on Sep 18 at the Galleries at Liriodendron Mansion. This show continues through Oct 23. Gallery hours are Sundays 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays 1 to 7 p.m.
Fred S. Brundick entered photos in three fairs this summer. At the Mason-Dixon Fair he won two firsts and two seconds; at the Harford Farm Fair he won one first and one fourth; and at the Howard County Fair two firsts, one third, and one fourth! He’s now looking forward to the Maryland State Fair.

On Sat, July 23, HAA members, Barbara Kirchner, Carol Trojanowski, and Eliner Tryon Elgin displayed their original art at the Chesapeake Theater, Harford Community College. Local artists were encouraged to submit entries that were inspired by the Impressionist, Claude Monet. Jeff Ball, Associate Professor of Art, headed the juried show. The art was on view in conjunction with the Harford Dance Theater which presented their contemporary dance, “Kinetic Canvas: Claude Monet”. From Carol Trojanowski
Member, Lise Lorentzen has just returned from Decorah, Iowa from the Vesterheim National Exhibition of Folk Art in the Norwegian Tradition at the Norwegian-American Museum and the 50th Anniversary of Nordic Fest which was a festival where 75,000 people attended. Lise received Honorable Mention Nationally on both pieces she submitted for the event.

Joanna Barnum has been accepted to participate in the National Parks Artist-In-Residence program as a resident artist at Catoctin Mountain National Park near Thurmont, Maryland. She is also one of 35 artists included in the inaugural exhibit of plein air painting at the new Ken Karlic Artist Studio & Gallery on Main Street in Bel Air, MD. Joanna will be one of twelve guest plein air painters invited to paint at the “Art, Wine & Dine” weekend on May 20-22 at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort in PA. Joanna is pleased to have her painting, “Outer Space” juried into the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition.
Fred S. Brundick appeared in the article “Framing Nature: Local Photographers Reveal Their Favorite Spots For Nature Shots” in the Harford Magazine in the Sunday Sun. Fred was one of the photographers interviewed for the article and there is a full-page photo of his Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly.

Artists Studio Tour - Jo Houtz had the largest number of visitors - 45 and sold 32 works of art. Les Picker got a visitor who registered and paid for his digital workshop. Ellie Tryon Elgin got many inquiries about her young people’s Saturday morning studio and Tuesday Adult classes. Barbara Kirchner got people sticking around a bit with her musical family providing musical entertainment. Ellie Tryon Elgin would like to thank June Arrington and Alex Kopp for helping her with this event.

IBC Meet and Greet held on May 10 - over 25 HAA artists showed up for this 2nd "Meet and Greet" at the Independent Brewingf Company to celebrate their new show "Spring". We sold 2 paintings, one by Louanne Van Fossen and one by Tom Spicer. HAA is really appreciative of Beth and Phil Rhudy's support.
For the entire month of April, HAA member Sandy Molinaro is showing her photography in the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Bel Air. Nineteen pieces including landscapes, florals, cityscapes and, of course, one of her moose pictures are on display.

As mentioned in our October, 2015 The Sketch Pad, Rosemary Hertsch was juried into the National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society "Best of America 25th Art Exhibition 2015". Recently, Rosemary mentioned that there were over 700 worldwide entries and only 112 were accepted. The following is the Judge's Statement about the quality of the paintings in the exhibit: " . . . All of the works I viewed are well executed, strong pieces. I sought the voice of the artist who communicated the story, the quiet, the sun, the cold, the movement, the stillness. Diane Quick sold a painting at our Rotating Exhibit at Upper Chesapeake Orthopedics.
Bill Rothenbach sold three paintings at the Holiday Art Gallery in Havre de Grace benefitting the Havre de Grace Opera House restoration project.
Fred S. Brundick sold two canvas prints of his photographs at the same Holiday Art Gallery benefitting the HdeG Opera House. Fred also mentioned that one of his photographs was selected for inclusion in the Lancaster County Photography Group's Annual Book for 2015.
Annabelle Thurlow recently sold a painting, "Main Rock", that was displayed in the window of the Lutz Building in downtown Bel Air.
Ursula Cain-Jordan announced her selection to the Maryland Artist Registry Juried Exhibition at Maryland Art Place (MAP). Opening Reception is Jan 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Exhibit runs from Jan 21 to Mar 26. MAP is located at 218 West Saratoga St in Baltimore.
