December 2015

Susan Zanella, gourd artist, was featured in the Harford Magazine in the “Why You Need to Know” department. See the attached PDF for the article about Susan.

Ursula Cain-Jordan has issued her latest newsletter for Dec 2015. Her exhibit is part of The New Day Campaign at Gallery 788 in Baltimore. The exhibit runs to Dec 31, 2015.

Sinikka Benson had artwork exhibited at the Bernice Kish Gallery sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society through Dec 12, 2015.

Member, Irma Shanahan has achieved Life Member status in the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Pattie Stonesifer arranged to display HAA artwork at the Abingdon Library for the month of December. Annabelle Thurlow, Patricia Stonesifer, Jo Houtz, Carrie Tipperreiter, Rosemary Hertsch, Sylvia Hutt, Pamela Burton, Susan Wilhoit, Susan Zanella, Kenneth Gilley and Carole Novak displayed their artwork.

Lise Lorentzen created a beautiful tree ornament featuring our HAA logo for the recent Chesapeake Cancer Alliance’s Festival of Trees held at the Bel Air Armory.

Several of our HAA artists participated in the Zoll Faculty and Student art show this year. They are Joanna Barnum, Dottie Dunsmore, Rosemary Hertsch, Alexandra Kopp, Marcia McCutcheon, Gabriele Roth and Gretta McGill.

Louanne Van Fossen sold a painting at our new rotating exhibit–Independent Brewing Company. She also sold one at the Holiday Gallery in Havre de Grace to benefit the restoration of the HdeG Opera House.

November 2015

Sylvia Hutt has been juried in as a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Bill Rothenbach sold 4 paintings at the recent Bel Air Festival for the Arts event.

Joanna Barnum was the featured artist in the Center for the Arts (CFA) recent newsletter. Joanna has an Arts Membership with the CFA. She also gave a watercolor workshop at the Howard County Center for the Arts last Sat, Nov 14.

Eleanor Mulholland participated in the Center for the Arts Plein Air event held recently. Here’s what Eleanor wrote about her experience: “I was able to paint 4 paintings (oil) in 4 days...never done before by me! The weather was beautiful and I painted locally at Darlington, the promenade at HdeG, and at a farm in Hickory. Then, I sold one of them at the exhibition at Rockfield Manor. I enjoyed the event very much as I love to paint outdoors. It was run very smoothly, but I thought the 50% commission was a little high. Maybe next year, that will change.”

The Abingdon Post Office requested help with their Girl Scout Brownie troop and HAA came forward to help. Pattie Stonesifer, Jody Karantonis, and Ellie Tryon volunteered to help with the troop’s art merit

Member Barbara Love is featured in the Arts By The Bay new show with their reception to be held on Fri, Nov 20 from 7 to 9 p.m.

October 2015

At the Harford County Farm Fair, Susan Zanella received 5 blue ribbons (first place) including Reserve Champion and two red (second place) for her gourds. At the Maryland State Fair Susan received two blue ribbons (including the Special Division Winner) and three red ribbons.

Rosemary Hertsch was juried into the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society “Best of America 25th Art Exhibition 2015”. The exhibition runs from Oct 11 thru Nov 1 in Bolivar, MO. Center for the Arts held a Harford County International Plein Air Festival Oct 7 thru 11 throughout Harford County. The Harford Artists participants were: Joanna Barnum, Robin Capecci, Konstantinos Damalas, Alexandra Kopp, Eleanor Mulholland, Amy Shrestha, Pamela Wilde and Justin Woytowitz.

Harford’s Heart published an article in their November 2015 edition about our member, Nathan Bartlett. Nathan describes his paintings as “quirky”, with a “sense of humor”, and “he enjoys making people laugh”. Nathan accepts commissions for portraits of both people and pets. Nathan mentioned he has artwork in our Harford Artists Gallery and displays art in our Rotating Exhibits in local businesses and doctor’s offices. Thank you, Nathan, for mentioning HAA.

September 2015

HAA members Joanna Barnum, Louanne Van Fossen and Patricia Stonesifer are exhibiting watercolors in the Baltimore Watercolor Society show at the Quiet Waters Park Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. The show ends October 12.

Frederick S. Brundick has another winner! His photo of the “Golden Gate Bridge” was Reserve Champion B&W at the Harford County Farm Fair. He had two other photos that both earned 2nd place in their categories.

Member, Judy Lenehan has a feature article in the August/September issue of Harford’s Heart magazine. Judy discusses how she works with fibre collage on canvas. You can see her work on her website, judyalenehan.com. She also mentions that she will be at Harford Artists’ exhibit at the Bel Air Festival for the Arts in September.

Frederick S. Brundick has another photo competition winner - his cat, Perry. Perry was Grand Champion at the Mason Dixon Fair in Delta, Pa. Two of his other photos placed 2nd and 3rd. Way to go!!

Lise Lorentzen has received a folk traditions grant from the Maryland state arts council to be a master teacher for the next year and work with an apprentice in Rosemaling. Lise, also had an article printed in the national publication, Norwegian American Weekly about Rosemaling and her recent show at Liriodendron. HAA was noted in the article. Lise is an award-winning Rosemaling decorative artist and has been specializing in custom painting of woodenware, furniture and home interiors for more than 30 years.

Please correct Carol Johnson’s name. It was misspelled in last month’s newsletter. Loretta DiLoreto sold a painting at Bel Air Rehab on East MacPhail Rd.

Ellie Tryon Elgin has issued her News & Notes newsletter. In it she has articles about the Open Studio Tour held on May 1, 2, and 3, including The Aegis article about the tour. Mike Scampone, who is also a member of RAW Artists, will be participating in their show being held at The Creative Alliance on Eastern Ave in Baltimore, Thu, Jun 18 from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15. See Mike’s invitation sent to us on May 21.

Louanne Van Fossen - Pictures at an Exhibition

Jody Karantonis

Jody Karantonis, who is a retired art teacher, held a painting workshop at the Veronica ‘Roni’ Chenowith Activity Center in Fallston this April. Most of her students were new to oil painting and enjoyed learning to paint with water mixable oil paints and most finished their paintings at the end of the workshop.

Loretta DiLoreto and Patricia Stonesifer

Loretta DiLoreto and Patricia Stonesifer judged the Ninth Children’s Art Exhibit at the Joppatowne Library on Sat, Mar 21. Loretta was the founder of this show when she was affiliated with the Joppatowne Women’s Club. The show features original art from grades K thru 5. Each child receives a Certificate of Participation and ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Best of Show. This year the Best of Show was won by a kindergartner.

Nancy Lloyd

Nancy Lloyd recently donated a flag pole for one of our flags at the gallery. Thank you, Nancy.

Chocolate Festival

The Chocolate Festival created sales for Jackie Swartz, Carole Novak, and Diane Quick (miniature).

Local Businesses Donate to Gallery

The Harford Artists’ Association is happy to announce that the following local businesses are making donations to the Gallery for the year 2015. This is the second year that . . .

Ronnie’s Fine Wine and Spirits which is located at 1514 Rockspring Road in Forest Hill has donated the wine for the receptions at the Gallery. They were the suppliers of our wine in 2014, and they also supplied wine for our 5th Anniversary Celebration.

Kroh’s Nursery which is located at 3308 Churchville Road, Aberdeen, will donate flowering plants for our Gallery porch. HAA is extremely grateful for the generosity of these local businesses. Congratulations to Sara Hodge

This past December, the HAA Gallery was the site of a well-deserved celebration for two founding members of the Harford County Cultural Arts Board (HCCAB). HAA member Sara Margaret Hodge and her associate and friend Dee Schuette were honored for 40 years of volunteer service to the Board from 1973-2014. The Harford Artists’ Association would like to add our congratulations to Sara for her accomplishment and additionally thank her for her many years of contributing to HAA. The Baltimore Sun had an article about Sara Hodge and Dee Schuette on Dec 26, 2014. This was brought to our attention by Nancy Lloyd. The Aegis also had an article “Arts Board founders honored” on page 2 of their Friday, December 26, 2014 edition.
